Robin's Nest: PROM 2012

Welcome Scrappy Peeps! This will be my last Design Team post for the Robin's Nest.
I've really enjoyed being a part of this very talented team and working with the "to die for" Robin's Nest products. I was blessed with two terms on the team but did not try for a third. Summertime = time to slow down a bit :o)

Today I am sharing a scrapbook layout I made for my daughter's album celebrating her Senior Prom! She has since graduated with honors, received 3 scholarships and will be attending the Maine College of Art in the fall. Kudos to her! I am very proud.

In the photos are 3 of her friends.



ROBIN'S NEST SUPPLIES:
Papers: Black and White Clocks, Glitter Black and White Animal Print, Classified Card Stock,

Other supplies: Lime card stock, Citrus and Meadow ink pads (Ranger), 3 fabric flowers, 3 bling brads, white tag.

The girls all seem to be dressed in black and white, with a hint of lime on my daughter and one girl had a red flower in her hair. I like to pull colors from the photos and use papers to match.

All the edges are inked and the flowers are attached with clear bling brads. There is also a flower with bling on the tag that is slipped behind the photo for my daughter to journal her memories.

The title was printed in a standard word document using the drawing feature with a text block and then rotated 90 degrees. I had to make a separate text block for each letter to adjust spacing, then grouped them and centered on 12" card stock for printing. The font is Times New Roman at 80 and 72 sizes.

Home Decor with Purple Cows

Today I've created a vibrant piece of wall art using minimal supplies and fabulous tools.

PURPLE COWS TOOLS:

Punch It! Autumn and Smart Trimmer #1060


Other Materials:
One 8x8 wrapped canvas
two 6x12 wrapped canvas
three 6x6 wrapped canvas
Pistachio acrylic paint
Purple Card Stock
Fabric flowers
Large rhinestone brads
Variegated green eyelash fibers
Purple Ribbon
Bling brackets
1/4 Balsa wood square 4x6

INSTRUCTIONS:


1. Paint all sides and fronts of canvas pieces with acrylic paint.


2. Punch 12" side of paper with the Punch It! Autumn then cut the strip off at approximately 1" wide. (Look at the spacing on the punched edge and center before trimming so it will be even.)

3. Cut 4 strips as described in Step 2 and then cut 8 narrow strips, less than 1/4" using the Smart Trimmer #1060.


3. Adhere the paper elements to the all pieces of the painted canvas, except the center squares. (See finished project for placement)



4. Using a hot glue, affix the 6x6 canvas on top of the 8x8 canvas, centered.
5. Glue the paper elements to the top of the canvas only. The small canvas is 6", trim and use the scraps for the remaining 2" on the top and bottom for the 8" canvas. (see finished project for placement)
6. Wrap ribbon around the 6x6 canvas.

You could stop here and have a very chic piece of wall art. I first wanted to create vertical stripes but then liked the second option too.




If you prefer to embellish more, as I do---continue on.

7. Wrap eyelash fibers around each canvas 3 times and tie in the back.
8. Place flowers and adhere with bling brads EXCEPT FOR THE CENTER CANVAS.
9. The center canvas flowers were too close to the edge, the wood frame was in the way. Therefore, embellish the fabric flower with the bling brad and glue into place. I suggest The Best Glue Ever! because when it dries, it remains tacky and does not leak through your fabric flowers and it does not dry out like similar adhesives.
10. Apply the bling and the two smaller flowers to the 6x6 center canvas as shown.

ASSEMBLE:
11. Using hot glue, apply glue to the edges of the canvas' that will be touching and adhere.
12. Use small pieces of balsa wood (4x6 and 3x7) 1/4" thick and hot glue to stabilize on the back of the project where the canvas pieces come together.


13. Using hot glue, adhere purple ribbon around all outside edges.

May Arts Design Team Hopeful

Welcome Crafty Peeps!
This is my post for consideration to join the May Arts "Ribbonista" Design Team.
As all of my readers are aware, I create and design a myriad of artful mixed media projects, paper crafts and home decor items. I am a paper addict and rarely create anything that does NOT have ribbon :o)
May Arts has an extensive collection of many stylish and trendy lines.

I have posted 2 projects here and the third will be live on my blog Thursday, June 14th with a sneak peek image at the end of this post.

Starting out small with a "green" crafted floral napkin ring.



SUPPLIES:
Empty toilet tissue cardboard center
2 yards of ribbon 1/4 or 3/8 ribbon
1/2 yard thin ribbon
button
needle/thread
super sticky tape
scissors

STEP 1

1. Cut the toilet tissue tube into three rings approximately 1".

STEP 2:


2. Apply super sticky tape around the outside, remove backing.

STEP 3:

3. Begin on the outside and wrap the ribbon around the cardboard. I suggest starting and ending on the outside because you can secure the area with your embellishment and it will not interfere when you put it over napkins.

STEP 4:

4. Continue wrapping until the entire cardboard is covered, end on the outside.

STEP 5:

5. Make a flower embellishment by looping the ribbon back to the center where you sew with needle and thread. Begin the flower with both the wider and thin ribbon. Twist and loop randomly for fullness until you reach your desired flower size. Knot the thread on the back.

STEP 6:

6. Attach a button the front center, this will help secure the ribbon as well as embellish.
Knot the thread on the back.

7. Hot glue the flower to the napkin ring where the wrapped ribbon ends.

I hope you enjoyed this project! Just imaging your color choices with May Arts Ribbon, you can customize any special event.

My second project is a 16x20" mixed media collage on canvas. I have not included step-by-step for this project because collage has a way of evolving and changing that takes many steps :o)
My vision for this project was the "ladder" of ribbon climbing up as where my head is when I "DREAM", hence the title.

This project includes many mediums and techniques. To name a few: decoupage, acrylic paint, ribbon, heat fuse thread, rubber stamping, alcohol markers, color wash, stenciling, detailing with markers and glitter. The title is chipboard black glitter letters.

My third and final project is a vibrant piece of wall art created for the Purple Cows.

Festive Friday Blog Hop #11

The holly was created for my Robin's Nest Table-scape project.
A little twist on the Holiday theme: to remember my patriotism and freedom.
The Liberty paper is by Robin's Nest, matted onto embossed gold card stock by Frances Meyer. The last layer of paper is glossy red alcohol inked card stock by Murdock Creations.
The metallic red star is by Purple Cows using the Heat It! Tool.
Of course, glitter on the holly berries makes it all work! :o)

Robin's Nest: "Friends" Shadow box

Welcome crafty peeps! Today I've created a fun, dimensional and colorful shadow box that celebrates friends.



ROBIN'S NEST PRODUCTS:
Dew Drops: Fall Gems, Fairy Dust, Cotton Candy, Easter, Precious Girl, Lullaby, Sea Glass, Fresh Mowed Grass, Summer
Mini Dew Drops: Pansies, Pink Coral, Skies, Iris

Other products used:
duetica.com Lettering Art Studio, FONTS: DT Saxi G60, DT Floot E40
McGuffey Wood Tray / Shadow Box
3d Crystal Lacquer by Sakura, acrylic paint, fabric flowers, card stock, jewelry boxes
Grommet Tags die by Spellbinders, eyelets and mini brads, small nails, green stamping ink.

Directions:
PLANNING: I selected 6 different colored / styles of fabric flowers, then coordinated which colors of dew drops I'd put with them.

1. Paint all side surfaces with lime green acrylic paint. Paint the 6 areas white.
2. Apply a generous coating of 3d Crystal Lacquer inside the first area to be worked on.
3. Place the black jewelry box into the 3d Crystal Lacquer. Mine are shifted slightly to accommodate the title block. The top row is slightly higher leaving the same amount of space on top and sides but larger area on bottom. The bottom row is the opposite; shifted lower.
4. Dump dew drops all around the box inside the shadow box area until you get the desired coverage and look.
5. Drizzle 3d Crystal Lacquer over the dew drops placed in the area. Let dry completely
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for all 6 areas of the Shadow Box.
7. Glue the flowers to the top of the black jewelry box. Some flowers needed centers, add eyelets and brads as needed.
8. Create a title block using the pretty fonts from duetica.com Lettering Art Studio, print onto coordinating card stock. Trim to size. Dry brush with lime green acrylic paint, ink edges.
9. I used the Grommet Tags die by Spellbinders as a template for the ends of the title block.
10. Mat onto black card stock and trim, the ends are hand cut to follow the first layer.
11. Attach the title block to the shadow box using small nails, glue glitter leaves onto title block.

I had some fun painting ceramic plates to use under my indoor plant pots and I had to "re-do" my wreath for the front door. The wreath had been weathered through 2 years of display so I filled in with some extra flowers and added the purple ribbon.
